Two time WISSOTA Late Model national champion Zach Johnson capped off a great week when he picked up his fourth win of the week during the Marthaler Chevrolet Late Model portion of Jam the Stands night. Other drivers finding thier way to victory lane in WISSOTA AMSOIL Dirt Track Series competition included Travis Saurer in the Sower Power WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Adam Burrows in the Extreme Auto WISSOTA Street Stocks, Jeff Flaten in the Alexandria Refrigeration WISSOTA Super Stocks, and Josh Thoennes in the Morris Auto Plaza WISSOTA Modifieds. The nights racing action was sponsored by Beck’s Radiator and Wildman Seeds while the MN Corn Growers Association offered free grandstand admission to all spectators.

Twenty three WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds lined up for thier fifteen lap, $500 to win main event. Shawn Olson and Kelly Haack led the field to the green and Olson darted out to a lead while Haack fell back into traffic. The caution would wave before a lap could be completed and the field would be completely reset. Once again on the start, Olson jumped out to a nice cushion ahead of Zach Hintermeister and Jason Hoffman. With five laps completed in the event, Dusty Bitzan, Travis Saurer, and last weeks feature winner Chris Mensen raced up to challenge Hintermeister and Hoffman for the runner up spot. Meanwhile, up front Olson was on a rail as he continued to stretch his lead. After a series of restarts, the cars lined up with five laps on the scoreboard and Olson continued to lead Saurer, Hoffman, Mensen, and Randy Laage. When the green came back out, Mensen’s #53 machine slowed and it was apparent that he had a flat left front tire. The field would line up once more with three laps to go for a single file restart. On the restart Saurer powered his car into the low side of turn one, but Olson fought him off. The duo would go side by side into turn three only to see Saurer take over the lead. Olson tried to duplicate the move going into turn one on the next lap but to no avail as Saurer jumped to the highside and raced to his seventeenth win of the season. Olson capped off a great evening with a second place run, Hoffman was third, Laage was fourth, and track point leader William Lund rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Laage, Olson, and Lund.

Dent, MN rookie driver Ryan Satter and Glenwood, MN veteran Mark Blom led the eleven car WISSOTA Street Stock feature to the green. Satter was able to clear Blom right off the start and jump into the lead. The running order would remain the same as all the cars seemed to favor the higher side of the speedway for the first couple laps. The lone caution of the feature flew on lap two when two time track champion Andrew Bangsund spun in turn three. With order restored Satter once again raced to the lead, but the driver on the move was Adam Burrows. Burrows raced from his seventh starting spot up to challenge the lead duo. Burrows would make easy work of the pair and raced to his third Viking Speedway win of the season. Satter continued to impress as he turned in a second place run, Blom came home a solid third, Brett Miller was scored fourth, and Tiffany Maus-Krippner rounded out the top five. Burrows and Blom each grabbed heat race wins earlier in the night.

Fresh off a $1000 win in Aberdeen, SD last weekend, Jeff Flaten jumped out to an early advantage in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Flaten, who started in the second spot, jumped out a nice cushion as the rest of the field jockied for position. Trevor Saurer raced his way into the second spot with sixteen laps remaining and worked the low line of the speedway in efforts to corral Flaten. While the two lead cars continued to stretch thier advantage, Jeff Crouse and Larry Lund were locked in a battle for the third spot. The duo would swap the third spot in each and every corner until Crouse’s #29* machine suffered a left front flat and he was forced to retire pitside. This put Lund in the third spot with Flaten still leading Saurer. The caution would fly with two laps remaining, which put Lund and Saurer on Flaten’s back bumper. The green would fly and Flaten held his advantage. As the trio came to the white flag, Lund jumped to the bottom, and Saurer to the top in an effort to make it a three wide battle for the win. The cars would race three wide into turn three and coming to the checkered, but Flaten was able to hang on for the hard fought win. Lund snuck by Saurer for second, Saurer was third, Matt Miller came home fourth, and pole sitter Derrick Lemke was fifth. Lund and Alan Johnson were victorious in heat race action.

A pair of number 1 cars manned the front row of the WISSOTA Modified feature. Terry Engebretson jumped to the early lead but that would be erased when Terry Merten’s machine slipped over the banking in turn three and brought out the caution. On the restart Jason Blaysck jumped to a lead with Dennis Bitzan, Travis Saurer, and Josh Thoennes in tow. Four laps into the feature the yellow would fly again, this time for contact between Bitzan and Saurer, which sent Saurer to the pits with with heavy front end damage. With the field reset Blaysck continued to lead. Thoennes would put his car to the high side of the track and race by Bitzan and Blaysck into the lead. Dwayne Clarke, in only his second night racing this year, was using the low side of the track to his advantage as he raced past Bitzan into the second spot near the half way point of the race. The running order would continue to be the same to the checkered. Thoennes picked up the win, Clarke turned in an impressive second place run, Bitzan was third, Schroeder continued his string of strong runs with a fourth place finish, and early leader Blasyck rounded out the top five. Thoennes and Bitzan were heat race winners in the class.

The final event of the evening was the WISSOTA Late Model feature and all eleven cars would take the green. Alexandria driver Shaun Peterson used a strong low side move on polesitter Shane Edginton and raced out to the early lead. Peterson would continue to lead as Zach Johnson worked his way into the second spot and raced up to challenge Peterson for the lead. The yellow would fly early in the event for a Jeff Wildung and Brad Parson incident on the front chute. With the green back out Johnson was able to make his way by Peterson and raced into the lead. Meanwhile there was a great battle going on the track for the third thru sixth spots between Seth Brede, Corey Nelson, Edginton, Wildung, and Rick Nelson. The group would continue to swap spots each lap. Eventually Brede was able to clear the group and settled into third. Meanwhile out front Johnson continued to lead and went on to collect his third straight win at the “High Flyin’ Half Mile”. Peterson came across the line in second, Brede was third, Wildung fourth, and Corey Nelson was fifth. Brede and Rick Nelson captured heat wins earlier in the program.
