Tim Johnson, who is no stranger to victory lane at Viking Speedway, pulled off a “hat trick” on Saturday night as he won the WISSOTA Modified, Super Stock, and Street Stock features. Other drivers who found their way into Marthaler Chevrolet Victory Lane included, Don Shaw in the WISSOTA Late Models, Corey Storck in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and Carson Miller in the Pure Stocks.

The nights Polydome Dirt Track Series action was sponsored by Ellingson Plumbing, Heating, and A/C, Snap-on Tools, and Marthaler Chevrolet. The night was also the tracks annual kid’s night, which featured a hula hoop contest and over 50 prizes given away to kids throughout the evening.

Alexandria drivers, Rob Lynch and Rick Nelson sat on the front row for the twelve car Greeley Plumbing and Heating WISSOTA Late Model feature. As the front row took the green flag, Lynch made contact with Nelson, causing a chain reaction accident on the front stretch. Lynch would retire to the pits with heavy damage, while everyone else was able to continue. With the green back out, Nelson jumped to the early lead and began to build up a nice lead as the rest of the field settled in behind him. By lap three, Don Shaw had worked his way up to the second spot and began to look to the inside of Nelson for the lead. Shaw was able to make the pass on the ensuing lap, with Zach Johnson closing in on Nelson for the second spot. Johnson was able to move into the spot and set his sights on Shaw for the lead. Lap after lap Johnson cut into Shaw’s lead only to see Shaw pull away on the next circuit. Shaw would go on to win the race, his fourth of the year at Viking, Johnson was second, Dustin Bluhm third, Casey Meyer fourth, and Nelson rounded out the top five.

Todd Berg and Jake Wildman manned row one for the Sower Power WISSOTA Modified feature event. Wildman jumped into the early lead on the high side of the track while the pack settled in behind him. Wildman continued to lead and on lap four, Travis Saurer looked to the inside of Wildman and completed the pass as the cars roared down the back chute. With Saurer up front, Tim Johnson, Zach Johnson, and Jason Thoennes raced up to battle with Wildman for the second spot. Tim was able to move into the second spot over the next couple of laps and began to reel in Saurer. Near the midway point of the race, T. Johnson blasted to the low side of the track and took the lead from Saurer, who now came under fire from Z. Johnson. Zach moved into the second spot and began to chase down T. Johnson for the lead. Lap after lap the lead continued to get smaller, but Z. Johnson would run out of time, as T. Johnson went on to claim his third win on the night. Z. Johnson was second, Thoennes third, Saurer fourth, and Brady Gerdes rounded out the top five after starting in the number twelve spot.

Twelve Greeley Plumbing and Heating WISSOTA Super Stocks rumbled onto the speedway for their fifteen lap main event. Jason Cook and Roger Host paced the field to the green and Cook wasted no time working into the lead with good racing action behind him. As Cook continued to lead, Tim Johnson was on the move. Johnson worked his way into the top three on just the third lap and looked for a way to get the lead. Johnson was able to get to the lead just a few laps later, while Cook battled with Trevor Saurer for the second spot, and Jeff Crouse and Jon Stepan battled for the fourth spot. Johnson continued to build his lead up front, while Cook continued to fight off Saurer in the battle for the second spot. With only a handful of laps left on the Shaw Trucking scoreboard, Cook’s machine suffered an engine failure and he coasted into the pits, ending his night. This left Saurer and Stepan to battle for the second spot, with Johnson way up front. Johnson would go on to win, his second of the night, Stepan was second, Saurer third, Matt Miller was fourth after starting in the number ten spot, and Crouse rounded out the top five.

A small, yet talented field of Wayne’s Auto WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled onto the speedway for their main event. With pole sitter Scott Horn not making the call, the line up was changed. With all the cars in the correct order, flagman Mike Blom brought the field to life. Justin Vogel jumped to the early lead with Tyler Klugman in tow. Vogel worked the high side of the speedway, while Tim Johnson worked his way up to battle with Klugman for the second spot. Only three laps into the race, Johnson would get to high in turn two, but make a save in order to avoid a caution. Johnson quickly raced back up to challenge for the lead and was able to move into the lead just a few laps later. Meanwhile, back in traffic, all eyes were on Mark Blom and Bryan Crandall, who continued to work their way to the front. Back up front it was all Johnson as he cruised to his ninth straight win in the class. Klugman held on for a career best second place finish, Blom was third, Crandall fourth, and Vogel rounded out the top five.

Sixteen Villard Implement WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled onto the speedway for their main event. Corey Storck and Matt Thoennes led the field to the green and Storck wasted no time jumping into the lead after wrecking his car just last week. With Storck using the high side of the track, Justin Froemming began to work the low side of the track in an effort to gain the lead. Each lap, Froemming would go to the bottom side of the track in turns one and two, only to see Storck power back on the high side. With the front duo battling, Travis Saurer and Shawn Olson raced up to join the fray at the front of the pack. Both drivers were able to work their way past Froemming and set their sights on Storck, who continued to blister the high side of the track. Storck would hold them off and claimed the feature win, Saurer was second, Olson third, Froemming fourth, and Thoennes was fifth.

In non WISSOTA support action, Carson Miller picked up his first career feature win. Miller won a wild and crazy race which featured many different leaders and a couple of hard wrecks. Craig Gardner was second, Tyler Kunz third, Megan Arvidson fourth, and Brock Volker was fifth.

The high flying half mile speedway, located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, will be back in action next Saturday, July 15th with a full program along with Fast Shafts Limited Late Models. The green flags flies at 6:45, with grandstands opening at 5:00. For more information on the track, please visit them online at www.vikingspeedway.net or “like” the track on Facebook.
