Zach Johnson charged from ninth on the grid to claim the WISSOTA Modifed feature win on a warm evening at the Viking Speedway. Johnson’s win was part of the WISSOTA Polydome Dirt Track Series. Other drivers who found their way into Marthalers Chevrolet victory lane included, Don Shaw in the WISSOTA Late Models, Trevor Saurer in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Corey Storck in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifeds, Tim Johnson in the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Ben Wolden in the Limited Late Models, and Jesse Waldorf in the Pure Stocks. The night’s event was sponsored by Greeley Plumbing & Heating, Prairie Trailer Sales, and Northland Dairy.

Rick Nelson and Dustin Bluhm, fresh off a win at Fiesta City Speedway on Friday, manned the front row of the twenty lap Greeley Plumbing & Heating WISSOTA Late Model feature. With the green out, fourth starting, Don Shaw bolted to the lowside of the speedway and raced up to challenge Bluhm for the lead. Before a lap could be completed, the caution lights clicked on over the speedway for Nelson who spun in turn three. With the green back out Shaw jumped to the lead and he began to pull away from Bluhm, who was now locked in a battle for second with Zach Johnson. Johnson was able to make the pass near the midway point of the race, and set his sights on Shaw. With the front two cars strung out in the front of the field, the best battle on the track was for the third spot between Bluhm and Dan Ebert, with the two racing side by side. Back up front, it was all Shaw as he cruised to the win, Johnson was second, Ebert third, Nelson fourth, and Ryan Mikkelson rounded out the top five.

Dan Ebert and Brett Hoium paced a nice twenty one car Sower Power WISSOTA Modified feature to the green. Ebert wasted no time jumping to the point, with Brady Gerdes and Tim Johnson locked in a battle for the number two spot. Only five laps into the event, Ebert’s machine lost a driveshaft in turn three, ending his night and putting Johnson into the lead. Johnson blasted up to the high side of the track, while Gerdes continued to work the low side, as the laps continued to tick down. Meanwhile, back in traffic, Zach Johnson was a man on the move. Johnson, who started ninth, raced up to challenge the T. Johnson for the second spot, while Gerdes moved into the lead. A caution would bunch the field up with nine laps remaining and Z. Johnson used the restart to jump to the high side of the track and raced into the lead. Behind Z. Johnson, T. Johnson and Gerdes were still battling door to door, but Z. Johnson had checked out as he raced to the win. Gerdes was able to get by for second, T. Johnson third, Landon Atkinson fourth, and Josh Thoennes rounded out the top five.

Bryan Hellerman and Matt Miller sat on row one for the Greeley Plumbing & Heating WISSOTA Super Stock feature event. As the first lap came to a close, third starter, Trevor Saurer had worked his way past the front row starters and into the lead. Saurer was quickly joined by Tim Johnson in the race for the lead, while Jeff Crouse snuck into the number three spot. Lap after lap, Johnson worked to find away around Saurer, only to see Saurer fight him off each and every time. A late race caution put Johnson and Crouse on Saurer’s back bumper. On the restart Johnson went for the slide job and slid up in front of Saurer in turn two, but Saurer turned his machine below Johnson and raced back by him on the back chute. From there it was all Saurer as he held of Johnson for the win. Johnson was second, Crouse third, Miller fourth, and Roger Host rounded out the top five.

Gary Reents and Jeff Crouse sat on row one for the Wayne’s Auto Repair WISSOTA Street Stock feature event. Crouse, in his second night in the car, jumped to the early lead with Ryan Satter and Tim Johnson in tow. Crouse continued to lead the pack until lap five when Johnson snuck by him on the inside of the speedway and raced into the lead. With Johnson up front, Crouse and Satter locked horns in a nice battle for the second spot, with Bryan Crandall right behind them. The caution would come out over the half mile speedway, for Crandall, who broke the front end of his machine and went over the banking in turn four. With the field lined back up, Johnson once again raced into the lead, with Crouse on the high side and Satter trying the low side in an effort to pass him. Johnson would hold off all comers as he raced to the win, his eleventh in a row at Viking. Crouse was second, Satter third, Mark Blom fourth, and Nick Schwebach fifth.

Haley Lee and Brandon Dolman paced the twenty one car Villard Implement WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature to the green. Lee wasted no time jumping the lead on the high side of the speedway, with Dolman locked in a battle with Blake Boelens for the second spot. Boelens was able to race by Dolman only a few laps into the event and raced up to challenge Lee for the lead. The duo was quickly joined by Corey Storck, who had raced up from his number six starting spot to join the fray at the front. Several cautions would plague the feature event around the midway point and each time, Lee would hold on with heavy pressure coming from Boelens. The final caution of the event, with six to go, gave Boelens and Storck one last shot and Boelens blasted his machine in low in turn three, allowing Storck to go around both him and Lee in the process. From there Storck went on to lead the final laps, as he claimed the win. Brooke Hellerman was second, Shawn Olson raced from ninth to third, Boelens was fourth, and Lee rounded out the top five.

Ben Wolden raced to his second Fastshafts Midwest Limited Late Model win at Viking this season. Wolden, tracked down race long leader, Dave Zimmerman, and used a low side pass to get around him. From there it was all Wolden as he pulled away for the win. Zimmerman was second, Ryan Satter third, Jeff Flaten fourth, and Scott Lehn rounded out the top five.

Current track point leader, Jesse Waldorf, stormed from his number five starting spot to claim the Cenex of Alexandria Pure Stock win. Waldorf, raced past Chad Anderson near the midway point of the race. Scott Horn was second, Craig Gardner third, Andersen fourth, and Megan Arvidson rounded out the top five.

Next week will be a busy one for the speedway, as they host the annual “Jam the Stands” event, featuring free grandstand admission for everyone. All six regular classes will be in action, with grandstand opening at 5 and racing beginning at 6:45.
