A nice field of over 90 cars pulled into the pits on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Viking Speedway. Don Shaw, who has been on a roll as of late, used a late race restart to pass race long leader Ryan Mikkelson and raced to the win in the WISSOTA Late Models. Other drivers who visited Marthaler Chevrolet victory lane on Douglas County Fair Night, included Zach Johnson in the WISSOTA Modifieds, Tim Johnson in the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Street Stocks, Justin Froemming in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and Jesse Waldorf in the Pure Stocks.

The night’s Polydome Dirt Track Series action was sponsored Integrity Title, Martinson Insurance, HPS Rental, and Extreme Auto. The night also featured a mystery pay out for the street stocks with various cash and prizes being paid throughout the field.

Rick Nelson and Ryan Mikkelson paced a strong field of 13 Greeley Plumbing & Heating WISSOTA Late Models to the green. Mikkelson jumped into the early lead and began to pull away from the pack, as Casey Meyer, Shawn Meyer, Zach Johnson, and Don Shaw battled behind him. Johnson was able to move into the number two spot with Shaw in tow, when the caution would come out for Nelson, who slowed on the front chute. This put Johnson and Shaw on the back bumper of Mikkelson for the restart. Mikkelson rode through the middle of turn one with Shaw on the bottom, Johnson on the top. Shaw worked into second and Shawn Meyer roared to the bottom of Johnson into the third spot. Back up front Mikkelson, who continued to lead, brushed the wall coming out of turn four allowing Shaw to race by into the lead. From there Shaw would go on for the win, Johnson was second, Mikkelson third, Shawn fourth, and Casey fifth.

Sixteen Sower Power WISSOTA Modifieds rumbled onto the speedway for their twenty lap main event. Zach Johnson and Dan Ebert manned the front row and Johnson raced to the early lead, in his CS Motorsports owned machine. Ebert was quickly overtaken by Tim Johnson, in the battle for seocnd, and he set off in sights of Z. Johnson. With the lead pack strung out a bit the main battle on the speedway was between Jason Thoennes, Blake Jegtvig, and Brady Gerdes for the fifth spot. As the laps continued to tick down, the leaders would encounter heavy lap traffic. Z. Johnson was able to work his way through the pack, while T. Johnson got hung up behind a couple of laps cars. Zach would go on for the win, Tim second, Ebert third, Josh Thoennes fourth, and Jegtvig was fifth.

Bryan Hellerman and Jason Cook lead a solid field of 14 Greeley Plumbing & Heating WISSOTA Super Stocks to the green. Cook jumped into the early lead with Matt Miller in hot pursuit. Miller was able to work his way by Cook in the opening stages of the race, but was quickly joined by seventh starting Tim Johnson in a race for the lead. Johnson blasted hard into turn three and completed the pass of Miller down the front chute and began to pull away. Miller settled into the second spot, but was joined by Cory Tammen in the battle for second in the ensuing laps. Back up front it was all Johnson as he cruised to the win, Tammen was second, Miller third, Trevor Saurer fourth, and Jeff Crouse rounded out the top five.

Twelve Wayne’s Auto Repair WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled onto the speedway for their fifteen lap main event, led by Bruce Ludin and Tyler Klugman. Current track point leader, Tim Johnson wasted no time working his way to the front, with Jeff Crouse and Bryan Crandall in tow. Johnson worked the low side of the speedway along with Crouse while Crandall worked the higher groove. With the top three locked into their spots, the man on the move was Mark Blom. Blom, who started ninth on the grid, worked his way up into the top five near the midway point of the race. Back up front it was all Johnson with Crouse in second, Crandall third, Blom fourth, and Justin Tammen was fifth.

A large field of Villard Implement WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds came to the speedway with Jason Hoffman and Haley Lee on the front row. Hoffman jumped to the early lead and began to build a nice lead with great racing action going on behind him. A myriad of cautions would slow the event, but each time Hoffman was able to fight off Justin Froemming and Josh Muzik in the battle for the lead. On a restart, with eight to go, Froemming worked his way to the bottom of the track and raced to the lead with Matt Thoennes racing up to challenge Hoffman. A couple of other cautions would slow the main event, but Froemming wouldn’t be denied as he raced to the win. Thoennes was second, Hoffman third, Tim Kanten fourth, and Brock Gronwold fifth.

After a month or so of bad luck, Osakis driver Jesse Waldorf found himself back in victory lane. Waldorf used a front row starting spot and held of Brock Volker for the win.

The speedway will be back in action next Saturday, August 26th, for it’s season championship night. All 6 regular classes will be in action with racing starting at 6:45. For more information on the speedway please visit them online at www.vikingspeedway.net or “like” the track on Facebook.
