All drivers must be at least 14 years of age (must have proof i.e.: birth certificate, ID). If under the age of 18, must have a minor release for signed by both parents or legal guardians’ to compete at Viking Speedway.
Safety. If your car or gear is deemed unsafe you will not run. Tech official’s ruling is FINAL!
A) Full faced helmet, Snell SA 2005 or newer. Must have date sticker/tag and be legible. Must be in decent shape. No M/C helmets.
B) A fire suit is required.(one or two piece allowed) We HIGHLY recommend a one piece double layer suit, fire retardant underwear, head sock, gloves and racing shoes. Use of a neck brace is STRONGLY recommended.
C) Racing type belt/harness required. Minimum of a 4 point harness required, but a 5 point is STRONGLY recommended. No more than 5 years old (tag must be present and legible) and be in GOOD condition (no frays’, tears, loose stitching, etc). Must be securely mounted to the role cage, not the body.
D) A high back aluminum racing seat is required. A right side head support is HIGHLY recommended. Must be securely mounted to the roll cage, not the body.
E) A driver’s side window net is required. Securely mounted at the bottom and a latch on the top.
F) A 6 point roll cage is required. Constructed from a minimum of 1.5 inch diameter with .095 inch wall thickness round steel tubing. Where cage attaches to floor/frame there must be a 6 inch by 6 inch plate with a minimum 1/8 inch thickness (1/4 inch recommended). Rear hoop must have “X” brace. Rear down bars may extend past strut towers but cannot be attached to them. Forward bar allowed from main cage to front strut towers. A minimum of 3 horizontal door bars on the drivers’ side and 2 horizontal on the passengers side with adequate vertical bracing. “Vent” windows brace is required (both sides). Steel door plate is required. Minimum thickness of 1/16 inch. Plate must be welded to outside of door bars and go from top door bar to the floor/frame and from main hoop down bar to a minimum of 6 inches past front of seat line. Top of drivers’ helmet must be below of bottom of main hoop tube. Cage must be electric welded. No square tube, galvanized or iron pipe, etc.
G) A minimum of 4-1/4 inch bars must be mounted directly in front of driver. Screen optional.
H) Fuel pump shut-off/Kill switch must be in easy reach of driver (strapped in) and clearly marked “OFF” & “ON”.
I) A RACECEIVER is required.
A) Any 3 or 4 cylinder, compact, front wheel drive car with a maximum wheel base of 107 inches. V.I.N. must be visible, legible and unaltered in one the OEM locations (drivers side lower windshield area is recommended). NO station wagons, all-wheel drive, convertible, rear steering or 2 seat sport vehicles allowed. Cars with sunroofs ok but must adequately covered.
B) Car number must be clearly displayed and a minimum of 20 inches tall on both doors and roof facing the grandstand/score booth and roughly a 6 inch by 6 inch must be displayed on front and rear of vehicle. Numbers must be in a contrasting color of the background color. If we cannot read it, you run the chance of not getting scored correctly.
C) All glass, mirrors, lights, body moldings’, etc must be removed. No sharp edges left exposed. All flammable materials of the interior MUST be removed. Dash may be left intact or can be removed. Hood liner must be removed. No gutting of the car is allowed except for roll bar/door bar clearance. Hood and deck lid/trunk must be pinned or chained shut. Doors must be welded or bolted shut with no sharp edges exposed. Side skirting is allowed. 1 inch by 2 inch “rub” rail is allowed, attached flush to the body of the car, from back of front wheel to the front of the back wheel, with no sharp edge exposed. No “homemade” body parts. No bullwork. No channeling, chopping, bracing or shortening of the frame or body is allowed.
D) Bumper inner structures must be welded/chained to the frame. Outer bumper skins/covers must be securely mounted to the car to prevent from falling off. A chain/tow hook/strap is required on front and rear bumpers to assist tow vehicle.
Engine. Must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. Crankshafts, rods, camshafts, connecting rods, stroke, valve size, etc must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. No porting, polishing or milling of any kind will be allowed. No super-charged, turbo-charged, variable cam-timing or rotary engines will be allowed. Air conditioning pump may be removed. Air cleaner must be OEM stock for year, make and model of car being used
Transmission. Automatic or Manual, Must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. Must be functional in all forward and reverse gears. Flex plate, torque converter, flywheel and clutch assembly must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. No transmission coolers in drivers’ compartment. No limited-slip or locking differential devices.
Ignition/Computer Must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. No programmers, ignition boxes or performance chips allowed. ECU/ECM should be mounted in a location accessible for inspection.
Battery. One 12 volt only. If left in OEM location it must be secure and the positive terminal must be covered. If moved to the drivers’ compartment it must be secured in a marine style case.
Radiator. One radiator in OEM stock location for year, make, model of car being used. May be aftermarket aluminum racing radiator. May use aftermarket racing hoses. Must have an overflow bottle/catch can.
Exhaust. Manifold must be OEM stock for year, make, model of car being used. Catalytic converter may be removed. Exhaust must exit behind driver. Side-out exhaust is allowed. Some style of muffler is required. No exhaust pipe in the drivers’ compartment.
Brakes. All four wheels must have functional brakes that lock up upon inspection. E-brake handle/pedal removal is required.
Steering. Must remain in OEM stock location. A quick release hub is allowed. No steering quickeners.
Suspension. Springs, struts, sway bars, shocks and sway bars must be OEM stock parts in OEM stock location for year, make, model of car being used.
Gas Tank. If gas tank is in front of rear axle, it may stay in OEM location. It gas tank is behind rear axle, it has to be replace with a racing style fuel cell securely mounted in the trunk area. If fuel cell is being used, the trunk area has to be sealed off to the drivers compartment. Max race cell used is 8 gallons. Only pump gas can be run(max 93 octane). No race fuels i.e. Turbo blue, VP, 110, nitro, etc.
Wheels/Tires. Must be OEM/DOT type steel wheel only. Max width is 7 inches. No aftermarket racing wheels. No wheel weights allowed. No reinforcement to wheels or valve stem area is allowed. All wheels must have 1 inch lug nuts on all 4 corners. Tires must be DOT passenger tires. No less profile than a 60 series. M&S tires allowed, just not ones specifically produced for mud and snow. (Those with a snowflake or mountain on the side) No bias plies. No sipping, sanding, grooving or softening allowed.
